Managing Placement Breakdown

Aims

  • Understand the common causes of placement breakdown
  • Recognise the underlying triggers within both parties that can lead to a placement breaking down
  • Identify the events and behaviours that can make placement breakdowns more likely
  • Identify actions that can be taken to minimise the chances of a placement breaking down.
  • Identify by action planning support needs and networks in the event of a placement breakdown.

Overview

Children who have experienced trauma need to feel safe to allow them to reset their levels of arousal. The stability of their home is profoundly important in their journey and yet this can often be at risk form multiple factors. We seek to understand why disruptions occur from the perspective of the child and the foster carer. Foster carers will learn the importance of a collaborative approach, working in harmony with services to support stability and also learn how to respond when a child's home and  stability is at risk.
