Safer caring in Fostering

Aims

  • Understand what safer caring is
  • Understand how your role fits into the wider context of safeguarding children.
  • Know how to develop strategies, knowledge and understanding that ensures safer caring practice is 'risk sensitive' and adaptive.
  • Have an understanding of delegated authority and how to use it in order to normalise a childs journey in care.
  • Be able to weigh up risks in a variety of circumstances.
  • Develop strategies for keeping all members of the family and extended network safe.

Overview

Safer care is an umbrella term to capture multiple facets of daily life in family fostering  homes across the country. The methodology is focussed on keeping everyone safe and yet seeks to normalise family life in a risk sensitive way. Understanding risk and the complexity of navigating both pro's and con's of this to enable children and young people to grow fully and meet life challenges head on.
