Fostering has had a profound impact on both myself and my family over the the many years I have had the pleasure to fulfil the role. I remember at the start of the journey (Skills to Foster) the picture that was painted didn't really do justice to the actual role nor, did it prepare me.
Back at the time I remember feeling taken aback and quite shocked by the experiences of the young person who came in to speak to us ,she later became a social worker and is amazing . What I can say now ,with hindsight is that it didn't truly prepare me for what was about to unfold in the future.
I have devised Foundations 4 Fostering to be a guiding light for new and prospective foster carers to feel fully prepared for their journey.
4 foundation blocks (C.A.R.E) delivered with a blended narrative of being both a foster carer and a social worker whilst weaving in threads in relation to the wider fostering context, my allegations work and project work.
C = Carers roles and responsibilities.
A = Awareness of children's needs through a trauma informed approach.
R = Responsive , Reflective therapeutic care giving
E = Engagement with the professionals network
This Foundational learning programme aids carers to explore fostering from the ground up, the highs and the lows. Delivered with realism but with an overwhelmingly positive narrative. It is delivered over three days with approx 18 hours of focussed learning experience.
Costing for this learning delivered in service (Virtually) is £2495.00. Maximum 15 families attending.
